International Film Series Highlights French and Finnish Productions

February 11, 2010

Allan Hancock College will present its International Film Series in March with the showings of The Man Without a Past on March 5 and Au Revoir Les Enfants (Goodbye Children) on March 12.

In the first film, Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki delivers a simple story about a man who loses his memory after being mugged and is forced to start his life anew. Along the way, he finds love and discovers values he had never known. The film is rated PG.

The second film takes place in World War II France, where two students at a boarding school form an unlikely friendship. During this very powerful drama based on events from director’s Louis Malle’s own life, the boys begin as adversaries and then find common ground as they try to survive the tyranny of the Nazis. The film is rated PG.

Films are shown on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. in the Forum (Bldg. C, room 40) on the Santa Maria campus. Pre-film lectures and post-show discussions will be presented by AHC faculty members. Both films are subtitled in English.

There is no admission charge; however, those attending do need to purchase an AHC parking permit.

Registration is now being taken at Community Education (bldg. S) on the Santa Maria campus. You must be 18 to register.
